It was a warm August morning when Lady Currey called her banners. We were to be the first line of defense in the Battle of Geek Girl Con. Representing the lands and titles held by the lords of Fantasium Comics and Games.
Those of us most loyal to our lady answered the call in earnest. The Lady Meescha Dare, keeper of Cthulhu and Mother of Schrodinger was first to arrive on scene, bringing with her great works of art destined to distract and demoralize unsuspecting con-goers. I approached the dais and offered my sword, bending the knee to Lady Paula. Pledging my knowledge and fortitude to her cause until mine own death.
We arrived at the battleground clad in our geek armor. Lady Meescha, armored in her legendary Game Boy battle garb and Earthbound greaves. She drew multiple eyes with her Tetris greaves and leggings. I dressed more conservatively, Triforce shirt and simple leather boots. All else present were out-shined by our lady of Fantasium. Attempting to emulate the great Hero of Canton, Lady Currey was formidable to behold: pistol holstered on her hip, combat boots, her dreaded B.R.P.D. apron, and her fiery orange hair which both enticed and enchanted anyone approaching our quarter.
Others appeared on the field to assist in the cause. The ladies from Espionage Cosmetics bolstered our left flank. Using the magic within their wares and an enslaved 7-foot Wookie, these sirens of the south had our enemies trembling with both desire and adoration.
The battle drew several travelers, some from as far as the Isle of Australia, and my Lady Currey was most gracious, providing information and entertainment whilst we defended the front lines. Most notably the Lady Venom, famous from her conquests on the series The Guild, visited us as we fought. She applauded our efforts and became enamored with Lady Meescha. She graced us with her presence not once but twice over the course of the battle and we treasured our time with her.
As the weekend drew to a close, our men- and women-at-arms were growing weary. The battle was hard fought but after all was done; we put up the best fight. As we traveled back south towards home, we remembered those that fell before our swords: a gender-bent Goblin King, a living, breathing Marauder’s Map, multiple element benders, and the most insidious of Harley Quinn’s.
We have pledged to return during the next year, and we hope that more of the Great Lady’s banner men (and women) join us as we hold battle for the recognition of the Women of Geekdom.
Yours in life and death,
Ser Josh, Son of Nel
Warden of the South and Master-at-Arms of Fantasium Comics and Games
