Like Ser Josh said, GeekGirlCon was great! We had a blast, met lots of geeky ladies (and guys) and chatted with Teal Sherer (Venom in the Guild). Teal has a new YouTube series called My Gimpy Life. I highly recommend you watch it!
I’ve been hearing this one question pretty often both pre and post GeekGirlCon: are guys allowed? Yes! Guys are most definitely allowed! The con just focuses its panels and guests on women in geeky industries (comics, games, math’s, sciences). The crowd has been a pretty even split between guys and girls (much better than the 90% guys, 10% girls that I usually see at conventions, in my opinion). The first year, almost all of the guys I saw were accompanied by a girl. It seemed like the guys were unsure or nervous about going by themselves. Its okay, guys! I totally get it! When I first got into comics back in Virginia, I was afraid to go into a comic book store by myself. I felt like I would be unwelcome there (and honestly, there were a couple where I’m pretty sure I was tolerated, but not welcomed). I always went with a guy friend. It’s kinda funny for me to observe the reverse of that. This year, there were a lot of solo guys. By solo, I mean they didn’t come with a wife, daughter, girlfriend, or girl that’s a friend. So, kudos to you, good sirs!
